The Dodd String Quartet
Music of Haydn and Cherubini

New York City's own period-instrument string quartet presents Haydn's quartet in B-flat major (op. 71, no. 1) and the Scherzo from Cherubini's quartet in E-flat major (1814).

Formed in 2007, the Dodd String Quartet is one of the rare quartets today performing on period instruments. Focusing on the 100 years that saw the birth and subsequent evolution of the string quartet, the Quartet enjoys exploring rarely performed works alongside the glorious mainstays of the quartet repertoire. The Quartet is named for the great English family of bowmakers whose designs spanned the evolution from the baroque bow into the modern bow in use today. Similarly, the Quartet’s repertoire reflects the musical developments of this same age, from the late Baroque through early Romanticism. In the brief time since its inception, the Quartet has performed to critical acclaim in the U.S. and Europe. The NYC-based ensemble represents a wealth of collective musical and performing experience, having been on stage with all the major period ensembles in the New York area: the Grand Tour Orchestra, Sinfonia New York, Concert Royal, New York Collegium, Clarion Orchestra, the Four Nations Ensemble, and REBEL. Individual members have performed throughout the U.S. and the world, at venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the City of London Festival, the Deutches Mozartfest in Bavaria and the Mostly Mozart Festival.
