Parthenia: The New-yeeres Gift

The viol consort Parthenia and guest Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek, mezzo-soprano, will perform The New-yeeres Gift on the Midtown Concerts series at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Parthenia (Beverly Au, Lawrence Lipnik, Rosamund Morley, Lisa Terry) will present a concert for Christmas and the New Year featuring The Ballad of the Rosemary by contemporary composer Will Ayton along with Anthony Holborne’s dance, The New-yeeres Gift, and other works by Elizabethan and 21st century composers. The New York Times describes Parthenia as “a first-rate consort of viols” and The New Yorker calls them “one of the brightest lights in New York’s early-music scene.” Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek is a member of the world-famous early music ensemble, Anonymous 4 and has a reputation as a versatile and accomplished soloist, performing music from Bach to Babbitt. Her voice is lauded by the Boston Globe as “a wonder of unadorned beauty.”

Brooklyn Baroque: Spotlight on Boismortier

Brooklyn Baroque will perform Spotlight on Boismortier on the Midtown Concerts series at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Brooklyn Baroque (Andrew Bolotowsky, flute; David Bakamjian, cello; Rebecca Pechefsky, harpsichord) will present sonatas for flute, cello, and harpsichord by the prolific but little-known French Baroque composer, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier. Brooklyn Baroque, ensemble-in-residence at the historic Morris-Jumel Mansion, made its debut in the fall of 2000 and specializes in the music of Bach and his contemporaries. The American Record Guide praises these “fantastic” artists’ “strange power” and “compelling and lively” performance.
